Tisha Ba’av Schedule and Laws

Tisha Ba’av, the fast of the ninth of Av, begins Monday evening and ends Tuesday evening.

Schedule for Tisha Ba’av:

Please eat your dinner before Mincha.

Mincha 7:15 P.M.

After Mincha you should the pre fast meal at home. The pre fast meal should consist of bread dipped in ashes, hard boiled egg and water. This meal should be eaten in a somber mood while sitting on the floor.

The fast begins at 8:19 P.M.

Maariv- Evening Services 9:00 P.M. followed by reading of Eicha (Lamentations) and Kinnos.

Morning Services 8:30 A.M. Tallis and Tefillin are not worn.

Special Tisha Ba’av Video 6:00 P.M. $15 for adults $10 children. (This presentation of timely messages is geared for adults primarily)

Afternoon Services 7:30 P.M. Tallis and Tefillin are worn by Mincha.

Fast ends 9:04 P.M.

Laws of Tisha Ba’av- The 5 Don’ts:

No eating or drinking

No wearing leather shoes

No annointing or shmearing of oils on ones self

No marital relations

No washing of ones self. When waking in the morning one should wash hands up until the knuckles. This holds true for each time you wash during the fast.

We sit on the floor or on a very low chairs in place of regular chairs Monday evening and Tuesday until 1:32 P.M.
